Getting involved in House Council is an opportunity to do great things – whether it’s hosting social gatherings in the residence halls, providing service opportunities for residents, promoting physical improvements in the halls, or contributing to campus change. Berea College offers variety in Residence Hall living. The fourteen Residence Halls vary in architecture, size, room arrangement and traditions. The Residence Hall experience is an important component of a Berea College education. The Area Director supports the academic mission by providing environments that promote good study habits. Berea College recognizes the inherent educational value of the Full Residence Hall experience.
Students work in hundreds of jobs in more than 120 different departments. From herding cattle on the Berea College Farm to performing research in state-of-the-art chemistry labs, at Berea, there’s a labor position for everyone.
The Berea College swim requirement began in 1928, shortly after the completion of the Seabury Gymnasium, which included a swimming pool. In addition to the already rigorous Physical Education and Athletics program, where students were required to pass a range of physical ability measures and maintain physically active during their schooling, the faculty decided to require all students to pass a swim test (the ability to swim one length of the pool) prior to graduation.
