A combination of stories, heavy metal music, raising a family, being mid-40s, loving cannabis, and hating your job. Comedy at my expense. Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/middle-aged-and-metal/support
I'm back. Kinda. Short one to wet my beak a bit.

A little touch upon what's been going on, and a discussion of this week's new arrivals:

Episode 15: The pros and cons of marijuana use.
Published:
Apparently one of the pros is that you can talk for long periods of time. This is really more of a reflection on my relationship with the sweetest of cibas, but I wonder whom else feels the same.
Top 5 records in your collection according to Discogs median value

It's been awhile since I've looked at my "top" records in terms of value. On a whim I did and a surprise or two, especially if I get out of the top five I did here. If anything, it shows that I'm certainly all over the map with my tastes! I suspect if you're a fan of heavy music, you've at least heard the names, but if not, I'll link to YouTube below since no Bandcamp pages are easily found:

Band follow ups I slept on then later loved.
Published:
There's gotta be people that have had a debut they loved, slept on the follow up, then years later rediscovered. No? Uhh, yeah uhhh me neither.
My metalcore trip over 2+ decades, featuring a bout of hiccups. Perfect for a podcast.

First metal and hardcore hybrid I heard was local in '96. I've waded through that genre since then, through it's good and bad, and have landed back at chasing the dragon of the original approach.

I give the nu-metal revival 20 minutes.
Published:

Nothing conjures up more passionate and pleasant debates within the metal community like putting "nu" before it. I enjoyed and still enjoy A BIT of music from that period (Nothingface and 36 Crazyfists will never get old to me), but the full "nu-metal" genre, image and all, isn't something I'd welcome back. But... It ain't me their after. I discuss one of the bands leading (or being pushed in front of) this revival.

My physical fitness journey and current struggles at 44.
Published:

I honestly don't think I mentioned music at all. Obviously a huge part of my workouts, but I was more focused on critiquing what I have become. From a chubby kid to a great physique to severely over weight to the best shape in my life at 38 to... this. Working out harder for less results can be deflating. Eating without working out can be inflating... I'm at a crossroads and honestly have no idea which path I'll take.

Where have all the concerts gone?
Published:

I discuss my with myself how much I miss live shows, why I always have to poop when I go to my office. Really just riffing a bit while sipping some cannacoffee. Happy Sunday!

Records my kids pulled: Episode 2
Published:

This is a very short one. There's not truth to the rumor that's it's because I had to poop.

A story about the positives of divorce and my music collection.

How you handle yourself in tough circumstances has an impact on future events, without a doubt. Staying amicable with my ex-wife led to the recent return of some very old and meaningful pieces of my music collection. I mostly discussed local bands and some really old demos; some of the bands I touched on I'll link below with a lil description.

Records my kids pulled: Episode 1
Published:

Got a pair of twin toddlers. They come to my office to pull a record or two to play later at night. It's honestly one of the things I had thought about as we were preparing to move, and they really love coming to visit. As noted in the podcast, links to each release below:

Loss of direction and motivation, then finding some direction and motivation.

My mid-life crisis continues, but it's an evolution I'm enjoying. Maybe record shows are my salvation?
Prostate exams, an Om concert, interstitial cystitus, marijuana to the rescue
Published:

Not much in terms of metal in this one, but an Om concert I attended while nursing a kidney stone makes gets touched on. This is the dad side of tings. Prostates, prescription medications, bladder disorders. Oh my!

Madball - Set it Off... Sets me off towards a lifetime of heavy music
Published:

So I only lost my train of thought once, if you don't count the second time at the end. I also only had one technical difficulty.

Episode 1.5... Why am I doing this?
Published:
Aging hipster? Possibly, but I was never hip to start with. Mid-life crisis. Probably. Work ain't workin' out? Bingo. This is a complaint episode.
Twisted Sister, butt pinching, and acorns.
Published:
One of my earliest metal related stories.
