We are done! Day 24, Christmas Eve, and it's NOT what I was expecting. A festbier. Oh well. Maybe next year we get to finish with a Doppelbock? I don't know. Regardless, here are my thoughts on the beer, and my ideas going forward for the podcast.
Well, well, well. Did I call it or did I call it? Day 23 brings us another Helles lager, 5% abv, but it turns out to be the best of the lot. Who would've guessed it? Not me, that's for sure.
We made it to Friday and Day 22. Welcome to my review of the Der Schwarze Bock. A very nice beer to finish out the work week. It is a repeat beer from last year but it is still a very good beer and I enjoyed it last year as well.
Welp, another episode served as a double serving. Day 20 and 21 bring us 2 similar looking beers but both being vastly different in every other way.
Welcome back to Day 19. We have today an export lager, Alpen Stoff 5.6% abv, that teases you all the way until the end. Unfortunate for a Taco Tuesday. Hear my thoughts inside today's episode.
Well, I got one of my wishes from yesterday's episode ha! Weininger Hoamat Weissbier, 5.6% abv. It's a repeat from last year's calendar, day 13 to be exact, but still a solid offering for the last week of the calendar and heading into the holiday weekend.
Welcome to Sunday Funday and it's a good one, beerwise, at least. Schwarze Tinte Collab Stout, 6.3% abv. This is a repeat from last year but better. Much better. I didn't like last year's at all. Smelled like carbonated Coke soda. Not good. This year? Leaps better. Hear my detailed thoughts in today's episode.
Double feature/trouble yet again. Day 15 and 16 brings us a Ying and a Yang of beers. 15 is Schlossbräu Rheder Märzen which was the Ying and 16 was Klosterbräu Bamberger Rauchbier and that is the Yang.
Day 14 for Thirsty Thursday and I'm still thirsty. Why? Tune in. It's not what you think.
Day 13 and hump day! Boy what a day it was. I'm glad it's over and I'm even more glad today's beer is a new one. Bären Weisse was the perfect way to end today, personally. "A rough day" would be an understatement.
Double treat for you all since I was too tired to record after work on Monday, Day 11.
Day 10 for Sunday Funday was a winner. A lovely way to finish out the week with a 7.1% abv Weiss Bock. Great color, aroma, and flavor.
Happy Saturday or weekend! Day 9 is upon us and we have a repeat beer from last year, Turbo Prop Imperial Pils. I had my concerns with this one but it ended up being ok. Listen in to hear the rest of my thoughts.
Day 8, Friday(in the US), and it's another Helles BUT this one turns out to be...well listen in to hear my thoughts. Spoiler, it's not what you may expect.
Welcome back to Day 7. Yet another repeat beer from 2022. These things are starting to become a daily occurrence.
Let's go HUMPDAY! Welcome back to Day 6 and we have a new beer to the calendar, A Märzen. A nice surprise so early in the calendar.
Welcome back to the Helles show. Kidding. Or am I?
Evening, afternoon, or morning? Day drinking is perfectly fine as long as you are napping as well.
Welcome to Day 3. We got a good one for today. Even if it is a repeat from the last 2 years, I enjoy this one.
We move to Day 2 and it's another Helles and it's another repeat from last year's, if not, the last 2 yrs of beer calendars.
Hi everyone. Welcome in any new listeners and welcome back to continued listeners.
I finally did it. I edited the Porter episode.
Welcome back friends and family. The long awaited but not anticipated Stout episode I recorded over a year and a half ago is here. I review Guiness's Chocolate Mint Bourbon Stout from the Maryland brewery just outside of Baltmur(Baltimore for you foreigners hehe), and I also discuss the history of the style as written in The Oxford Companion to Beer. I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think of the episode. Cheers!
Listen in on my thoughts on Day 24, Ladenburger Weizenbock Hell, and my recap on the entire advent calendar.
Fri Day 23...yeah that didn't work. Friday and it's Day 23 of the calendar and we have another repeat and another helles. Flotzinger Hell. 5% which is on par as most Helles Lagers. Tune in to hear my thoughts on it as we approach the final day of our Advent Calendar. Cheers and Prost!!
Day 22 for Thirsty Thursday is a repeat from Day 3 last year. 5.3% abv Pale Lager brewed in the style of a Marzen. Really really solid beer. Sort of bummed it's a repeat but still really tasty. "How tasty is it Borrie?" Listen to the episode to find out JIMMY. Cheers and Prost!
Welp, I stand corrected. We got a new beer from a repeat brewery instead for HUMPDAY! Perlenzauber German Pale Ale, 5.4% abv, also from Privatbrauerei H. Egerer. And much like the IPA from a couple of days ago, past it's prime. Literally....just listen to the episode.
Welcome back and for Taco Tuesday, we have another repeat....sigh, Erlbrau's Erl Hell, 5% abv. A solid beer and Helles lager, not taking that away from them but it's looking like I may have jinxed myself over the weekend in saying we should be getting "new" beers for the last week...Take a listen in for further details lol
Welcome back to the home stretch. Day 19, Monday, and it's not a great start. Perlenzauber IPA, 6% abv. It is a repeat beer but it's well past it's 90 day IPA threshold. No bueno. Take a listen and let me know what you think. Cheers and Prost!!
Finishing the weekend with a nice beer but a repeat beer from last year's calendar. Privatbrauerei H. Egerer Wiener Lager, 5.1% abv. Great looking beer, delivering solid aromas and taste. I could drink this all day. Take a listen and let me know what you think. Cheers and Prost!!
Day 17 starts the weekend and it starts with a repeat beer from last year's calendar(day 11, which funny enough, was also a Saturday), Familienbrauerei Schwarzebrau Helles, 4.8% abv. Another short one as this was had last year and nothing has changed. Tune in for my quick thoughts and hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend. Cheers and Prost!!
Day 16 sends us off into the weekend with a fest...bier. Herrnbrau Tradition Festbier to be exact. 5.5% abv. Let's see how we get to start our weekend shall we? Tune in for the details. Cheers and Prost!!
HELLO THIRSTY THURSDAY! Sorry for yelling. Day 15 is upon us and boy is it exciting. New brewery this year, UberQuell and their Bambule Pilsener, 5% abv. Wild label art which had to be paired with one my coolest glasses. Listen in for my thoughts. Cheers and Prost.
Humpday! Day 14 brings us a new beer from a repeat brewery. Kauzle Helles Lager, 5.2% abv. Last year we had their German Pilsner on day 9. Not much to say about this one but I still do ramble on like normal. It's fun haha. Cheers and Prost!!
Day 13 for Taco Tuesday is as good as the day itself. Wieninger Weissbier, 5.6% abv, and it's lovely. A repeat beer from last year's calendar but it doesn't matter. Still a great beer. Listen in to hear my thoughts and hear me ramble will ya? Cheers and Prost!!
Day 12, this year, is a repeat beer from last year's calendar(Day 5) from Teisnacher 1543 Festmarzen, 5.4% abv. Unfiltered Marzen's are very rare as most are presented clean and crisp. This brings new character to the style, which I love. Tune in to hear my thoughts on this year's edition. Cheers and Prost!!
Day 11 brings us to the end of the week with a new brewery but not a new style. Schlossbrauerei Hohenthann's Helles Lagerbier, 5% abv. Very classic aromas, flavors, and presentation. Tune in to hear my thoughts.
Happy Saturday and welcome to Day 10. Unserbrau's Alpen Stoff, 5.6% abv. Available almost everywhere in Germany, yet I never bought it. Shame as it's really really good. Listen in on the rest of my thoughts. Cheers and Prost!!
Friday!! Day 10!! LET'S GOOOOOO!!! Schloss Brauerei Herrngiersdorf Hallertauer Hopfen Cuvee, 5.3% abv. Winner. This is a great beer. Listen in to hear my more detailed thoughts on it. Enjoy your weekend, stay safe, and we'll see ya on Day 10! Cheers and Prost!!
Day 8 is a quirky one. Maybe mislabeled? Maybe it's lost in translation? Either way, this isn't what it's labeled as. 5.6% abv is where it comes in at. But my thoughts? Well, click play and listen in. Cheers and Prost!!
Lucky No.7 or is it? Langang Brauerei Helles was a new beer from a repeat brewery, which last year's day 21 was their Pils, isn't so lucky. 5% abv but you'll need to listen to my thoughts as to why it wasn't so lucky. Cheers and Prost!!
Day 6 on Taco Tuesday brings us our 2nd repeat beer from last year's advent calendar. Graminger Weissbrau's Dunkle Weissbier. 5% abv and it's exactly the same as last year. It goes to show that Germany culture strives for consistency in at least their beer. Tune for my super quick thoughts on it. Cheers and Prost!!
Welcome back to a new week and a new Day 5. Schwarze Tinte Collab Stout, 6.2% abv. Not really a stout though. Tune in and see why that is. Cheers and Prost!!
We are grooving into the calendar and day 4 brings us one of my favorite German styles, Kellerbier. This is from Kurpfalz Brau at 5% abv. Just a beautiful beer. Take a listen for my thoughts and hope you enjoy! Cheer and Prost!!
We're grooving right along to day 3 and it's another beer from a brewery we had in last year's calendar as Day 23. Day 3, this year, is Schloss Brauerei Ellingen Furst Carl Unfiltered Pils, 4.9% abv. Nice solid offering, of which, I was excited for as last year's beer was really good.
Grumpy German Helles for day 2. Grumpy is spot on as this episode is late so the beer is not happy. Grantler Helles from Schloss Brauerei in Herrngiersdorf. Take a listen and I hope you enjoy, at a minimum, the selected song as it just spoke to me. Cheers and Prost!
We start almost the same way we left off with last year's Advent Calendar, with a Helles lager. Listen in for my thoughts of the beer and my apology for my absence from the podcast. I hope you enjoy the episode either way. Prost and cheers!!
Merrry Christmas Eve everyone! Day 24 is upon us and it gave us a terrific final beer to end the box set. A 7.5% abv Dopplerbock Dunkel. Super delicious beer.
Thirsty Thursday Day 23 beer!! YEEESSS! Furst Carl Kellerbier at 5.1% abv. Kellerbiers are so tasty and this makes me happy to get another one as the 2nd to last beer in the calendar. Makes me even more hyped for tomorrow's day 24 beer.
Day 22 HUMPDAY hype!!! Matrix Resurrection release day HYPE! Today we get Schlossbrau Rheder Original Pils, 4.7% abv, and man this is good stuff. Checks all the boxes as a Pils.
Day 21 and I'm getting trolled. Another helles. Wittmann Urhell, 4.9% abv. Like the previous 14 Helles lagers, this one is no different.
Christmas week gets started in a great way!! Day 20 is a Dunkle Weissbier, 5% abv, and oh so perfect for the weather. I am really to have this one with only 4 left.
A Helle of a way to end the week eh? ...Day 19 is another helles. Same shit. Different day. Still tasty though. Consistent, which is key.
Day 18 yields another Helles lager. Erl Hell, 5% abv, but it's pretty damn good. The weather today was your typical Cali weather and this one fit the bill nicely.
3 days in a row WITHOUT a Helles lager. Day 17, instead, brings us an Imperial Pils, Turbo Prop Imperial Pils to be exact. 6.5% abv. A style I personally don't think should exist. Just doesn't "fit" in the imperial realm of beers.
Thirsty Thursday and we get ourselves a lovely Day 16 beer. Blau Weisse, 5.6 abv, really does quench that thirst. Very lovely beer.
HEYO! Day 15, HUMPDAY, brings us something different. Perlenzauber IPA, 6% abv, from Privatbrauerei Ergerer.
I'm officially in Bier advent calendar Hell. Get it...? No? Ok fine. Day 14 is Flotzinger Hell, 5% abv, and same shit different day is the name of the game today. I sound off on this helles lager so take a listen.
Day 13 and to start the week, we get Landgang Pils from....Landgang Brauerei. 5% on the dot and it's solid. Real solid. There is a unique flavor and aroma which leads me to believe that it could be made with more than just the German noble hops Pils are traditionally made with.
Day 12 and we get a big boi beer! I dig it! Ladenburger's Weizenbock Hell, 7.4% abv. Very welcomed change that's for sure. I love me some big wheat beers.
Day 11. Another day, another helles lager. 4.8% abv, named after the Brewer's daughter, Marie. Nice and crisp but picked up a unique flavor about half way through. Take a listen to hear what I have to say about it.
Day 10 on a FRIDAY!! Today we get Kauzle German Pilsner, 4.8% abv, of crystal clear yumminess. This type of pale lager is fine as it turned out to be a very very good one and has a different flavor profile than the Helles, thanks to it being a Pilsner.
PROST to NOT a pale lager. Day 9 gives us a Fest Märzen to be exact. Still a lager, but not pale. This lovely beer is a 5.4% abv slightly amber in color fest lager that is a joy to drink.
Day 8. Wiener Lager. 5.1% abv. Crystal, clear, clean, refreshing, pale lager....again. Very very tasty but still disappointed in another pale lager for the advent calendar.
Day 7 and we go back to Hell....helles lager to be exact. Come power through another helles with me as I power through this bug/cold Charlie gave us. I apologize for the nasaly episode. If you didn't enjoy it, leave a negative review. I'll make sure to pass it along to my manager.
Kellerbier Mondays? Not a thing but it should be. Day 6 brings such a thing with Herrnbrau's Zwickl Kellerbier, 5% abv. I really like this style and this one didn't disappoint.
Here we go! Our first dark beer. Der Schwarze Bock, 6.2% abv. A real treat I gotta say. Enjoy, the episode and I'm sorry it rang long...by 2 more minutes. See you tomorrow for Day 6!
Day 4 is in the bag with Husarentrunk Hell. At least, I assume it is as it tastes EXACTLY like the previous 2 helles that have appeared in the box this week.
Here we go. Day 3 brings us another Helles, Alms Hell, from Privatbrauerei Egerer, 5.2% abv. A proper helles lager...again. I don't mind starting out with these styles early on in advent calendars. Gets you "primed" for the rest of the days to come.
Here we are with day 2 of the Bier Advent Calendar 2021 with a favorite style of mine, Weissbier, from Wieninger called Hoamat Weissbier.
Welcome to day 1 of 24 Episodes dedicated to covering the Beer Advent Calendar 2021 from Costco. It's all Germany beers and these episodes will be quick hitters. Trying to keep them under 5 minutes. Trying...
Hello.....hello? Is thing on?
In this episode 4.5 or part duex, I review Firestone Walker's Mezca-Limon vintage beer. I spoke about this briefly in the last episode and I was able to find a bottle and just had to cover it considering the Tequila Barrel Sunrise review was the last episode. Makes sense right? Maybe? Who knows.
Welcome back friends!
A little deep dive into Gluten-free beer and review 2 beers from Montreal's Glutenberg Brewing. Their White and Stout. Bring your favorite beverage or snack, or turn this episode on for that drive to work or to get coffee for my thoughts on the subject. Spoiler, I liked the beers...mostly.
Welcome to episode 2 of the #BeerswithBorrie podcast. In this episode, we discuss the history of Mexican beer and why most of their beers are relatively the same style. This episode is much shorter but the information is still pretty interesting. I read a portion of the entry in the Oxford Companion to Beer Edition 1, kindle Page 20829 of 34773. Well, you know how Kindle pages are.
Welcome to my 1st ever Podcast episode. #BeerswithBorrie is a show I do every other Friday on my Twitch channel and have now turned into shortened to the point Podcast. For Ep 1 of the Podcast, I decided to discuss what the Cicerone Certification Program is about and why it's important in the beer industry. I also briefly introduce myself.
