A view from Camp is a state of mind you can enjoy any time! Host Monte McCulloch and various guests seek to entertain, inform and educate listeners on outdoor lifestyles and other shenanigans! A View from Camp is heavily focused on camping, fishing, hunting, outdoor cooking and conservation and being outdoors in general. We also focus on and encourage the introduction of kids and newcomers to this lifestyle! Born and raised in a small town in Montana and being around and working on ranches exposed us to a number of iconic characters that influenced us through out life! Their stories, antics and finding ways to entertain ourselves with out todays modern distractions helped to shape us into the people we are today!

Having a chat with my father in law Mike Enterline.  We discuss the place they currently live and its history and what it was like growing up in an oil camp in Colorado living an outdoors lifestyle! Mike tells what it was like first camping and fishing in Colorado and how living that type of lifestyle drew him closer to his dad and brothers.  He also tells about his first elk hunt,  getting lost, spending the night alone in the snow as a 16 year old and how to help or not help people in need!

S1E14: Pheasants with Zach!

Andy Fauth and son Zach and I get some pheasant hunting in after school! We pick Zach up after school one day and get some end of the year pheasant hunting in! After the hunt we chat with Zach about his progress with bird hunting!  We also chat with Zach about how hunting, camping, fishing and growing up living outdoors lifestyles has given him confidence in sports and other aspects of life! Zach tells about his first turkey hunt last spring where His sister and him shoot a double, both getting toms at the same time!  Andy talks about growing up in Oregon and going crabbing and how it has been a great family activity that we all have shared in and enjoyed!We also joke about the fear of sheep dogs and how it runs in the family! It was a great afternoon spent with friends!

S1E13: Cruising the back pasture and wrapping up DDDC!

While Cruising around in the back pasture Troels, Craig, Little John, Dane the Danish dagger and I discuss how DDDC and growing up doing such activities has help shape us into the people that we are!  We talk about growing up living outdoors lifestyles and how important it is to still get to do that!  We talk about the importance for Craigs family to still get to go back to Montana and experience outdoors lifestyles while growing up in the city in Washington!  DDDC is something we all look forward to every year! We talk about what it means to be a "free Trapper" and possible consequences! Another year of DDDC is wrapped up with everyone have a great time, successful hunts and lots of rewarding work done on the ranch!

S1E12: Daddy Daughter Deer Camp with the Danish Dagger!

The Danish Dagger heads to Daddy Daughter Deer Camp!  Even though it started as DDDC we have allowed the boys to come along as they have come of age and some of our girls have grown and gone off to college! Troels' boy Dane earns the nickname "the Danish Dagger" and  we are also joined by long time friend Craig Kovacich and his boy "Little John!"  After the fire at the ranch last year and Covid restrictions the year before we are able to resurrect DDDC and what a successful camp it is! Craigs two daughters fill their tags early and have to head back to Washington to get back to school!  We have all the kids set goals for deer quality for the first time and work hard for them to meet their goals.  Each kid passes on several deer while trying to meet their goals and everyone has a successful hunt! We discuss the finer points of DDDC and how it helps these kids in day to day life as well!

S1E11: Red Fish Birthday Party!

It's a surprise Red fish birthday party!  Tatia puts together a plan for me to go to Texas and surprise Steve Nail with a weekend of chasing Red fish and other shenanigans!  Tatia sets the bait and under the pretense of meeting some other people out for drinks after work we surprise Steve with a planned trip to fish for Reds and anything else we can get to bite on the Texas coast!  Steve and Tatia had moved back to Texas the year before so it had been a while since we had gotten together.  We had a fishing trip planned but had to cancel it so it was a good surprise to get together and get a weekend away chasing Bull Reds, Listening to the World Series and reminiscing about previous trips and hunts! We fish the back water bays and Jetties near Port Aransas, Texas!

S1E9:Stealing a Day on the Snake with Lydia!

Stealing a sunny fall day on the snake river with my daughter Lydia! It's that time of year when it gets cold and you need to winterize the cabin and close it up for the year. But when you get those rare seventy degree days in October it is the perfect time to steal an extra day on the drift boat floating the snake river!My youngest daughter Lydia and I record and chat about Daddy Daughter Deer Camp, hunting, fishing and naming flies all while floating down the snake river!  One of the best days of the year stealing an extra day of fabulous weather floating on the snake and creating the new game, Real fly name or made up! Only way it gets better than this is if we actually catch a fish!

S1E7: Stop shooting the dang signs!

Troels, Andy and Monte discuss land stewardship, land owners, picking camp/hunting mates and safety!Taking care of our public and private lands is on everyones shoulders who use the land.  We discuss how taking care of the land and respecting private lands and the owners can open doors for more people in the future. Shooting of signs and leaving other target trash as well as crap(literally) is destroying our lands and public access!  We are all need to be conservationists and do our part to take care of the land we love to use! Safety and picking the proper hunting/camping partners is of utmost importance!

Bonus: First Night Alone in the Bunk House!

Monte Tells about the first night spent alone in the bunk house at age 15!  Being alone specially at night can put your mind tricks into high gear! Grizzly bears, escaped convicts, Freddie Kruger and wookalars all attack at night when you are alone!

S1E6: South Cache Muzzleloader Elk Hunt

Monte and two buddies Troels and Andy spend a week in the mountains in Utah looking for a bull elk with a muzzleloader.  This was a premium draw tag for Monte that took sixteen years to draw!Warm weather slows the rut while the boys spend all week chasing elk enjoying each others company and having an all around good time!Finally the weather changes slightly the rut picks up and Monte has some success with the muzzleloader!

S1E5: Turkey juice introduction to the Troels!

Dumping turkey juice down a friends neck is not the best way to introduce yourself to hunting with them, but it worked! Long time hunting buddy the Troels and Monte are scouting for elk and start the South Cache Muzzle loader elk hunt.  reminiscing about initial hunts and the turkey juice episode as well as highlights of their hunts together with and with out kids.  Opening morning for Monte's elk hunt and two days of scouting!

S1E4:Back up cameras save relationships!

In this episode Monte tells how it used to be before back up cameras came on scene.  For those who have never had to back up a vehicle and hook to a trailer with out a back up camera this episode highlights the difficulties that we faced before they were standard issue!  Also discussed are the benefits of the "ences" and how that can be beneficial in a relationship

Fredrik Consson shares his views on camping as a child growing up in Sweden and Greece.  Rubber raft versus ferry, chainsawing blocks of sheep poop, spearfishing in Greece, cliff jumping and eating fabulous food not a bad way to grow up! Spending time with Fredrik's family in Crete and getting a fill of food and drink!

Initial camp jobs are identified and what it means in growth to transition from one job to the next. Spending time with Grandpa Bill fishing, setting up camp and becoming a man! How to identify when Grandpa Bill had enough and was bored.  This was actually the first attempts at recording a podcast and how it is clunky and awkward to start but a lot of fun!
