Great week 2x wins for the First Team, 8 goals and a thrilling FA Youth Cup win for the Mariners Youth Squad against West Ham United at Blundell Park. Never mind Storm Darragh, the Mariners put on a show for the amazing Town following who travelled 160 miles across the country regardless of the horrific weather. A celebration of all things GRIMSBY TOWN, please SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, SHARE & CLICK the NOTIFICATION BELL! #gtfc #mariners #ericandernie #morecambefc #special #secret #viralvideo #bringmesunshine #3fishontheshirt #utm #upthemariners #strokeassociation #strokeawareness #getwellsoontommywiddrington #tommywiddrington
The Mariners 5 Accrington 2, we sum up Town's home form-busting 7 goal thriller against our League 2 opponents Accrington. A much needed win and a great performance from our MOTM Jason Dadi Svandthorsson, who put in a superb display on a cold Tuesday evening at BP!
John Tondeur joins us in the 3 FISH Pod to talk about his life and times as the "Voice of the Mariners" for the past 40 years! He talks about the club he loves, and the trials and tribulations of being a football reporter / commentator.
In the week when everyone's favourite (sarcasm) ex-manager started blaming his new team's training ground as being haunted for poor form, the Mariners recorded their sixth successive away game without defeat at Newport. The ref tried to spoil Town's record, but to no avail, as the rejuvenated Jordan Wright, delivered the WRIGHT type of justice for Town (see what I did there!) Dave and Steve run through some of the game's key points and look at some of the more irreverent football stories this week, like who's up for the Manager of the Church, following the resignation of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Wait is this the right podcast? Fear not all will be revealed with some humour! PLEASE BEWARE HUMOUR IS SUBJECTIVE LOL
The Mariners record another stunning away win at the Cherry Red Records Stadium to defeat the previously unbeaten at home Dons 1-0. With availability and time in short supply this week, Dave pilots the show solo, and with the help of the fantastic @donsvlogs2023 footage, reviews the game, savouring Greeny's outrageous assist to Danny Rose's great finish. Current away form is WWWWW 4 of those 5 in that yellow and red away kit. Should we wear it at home? Anyone?? UP THE MARINERS!
Town crash out of the FA Cup at first attempt and the poor home form continue, much to the frustration of the die hard 3,000 or so fans at BP. Dave and Steve ponder the imponderables of the second half performance against Wealdstone. We're hoping that there's only one way (UP), and reflect that there's still some perspective needed on Town's season so far. After all we can "concentrate on the league now" UP THE MARINERS!
We welcome TNT Sports (previously known as BT Sports) Commentator Adam Summerton on to the 3 FISH Podcast. Adam is a game caller of many years experience, having worked his way through the industry from local coverage of games, right through to the heights of European competition Finals. Along the way we Mariners have become fond of Adam's pronouncements of the Grimsby Play Off campaign that saw Town regain their league status in 2022. At the heart of that group of games was "THAT GAME", "THE WREXHAM GAME" "THE 5-4" or whatever you refer to it as, that led Grimsby to the final. Adam has openly lauded Town's performances during the campaign and in particular in this match, and he joins us all to tell us what it was like behind the scenes. Thanks again to Adam who gave very generously of his time to be with us, it's a great listen, bringing back many fond memories for Grimsby fans, not forgetting that Wrexham played a massive part in making the game the spectacle it was. I hope they remember the entertainment in Wrexham too, as their fans were superb both immediately after the game, and well remembered for their actions in the week after too! ENJOY! THIS IS A FANTASTIC EPISODE. Town contrive to be in a reasonable vein of form, but buck the tradition of winning more at home than away! This week saw the Mariners on the road midweek to Birkenhead away to Tranmere Rovers, followed up at home on Saturday with the visit to BP of the Football Franchise that is Milton Keynes FC. We also look at the feeling that we're doing the same things over and over at home in Groundhog Day fashion. Straight away wins says were doing good things, and straight home defeats says there's hard work to do to make us better! We also look at the feeling that we're doing the same things over and over. We also look at the feeling that we're doing the same things over and over. We also look at the feeling that we're doing the same things over and over............AAAARRRGGGHHHH!! #UPTHEMARINERS #gtfc
Steve talks about the season following Town's relegation, the arrival of Alan Buckley and the FA Cup run. He also fills us in on why his professional was relatively short, but how he continued to play the game he loves to a ripe age. Special thanks to Steve for taking time to spend with me for this 3 FISH on the SHIRT SPECIAL!! UP THE MARINERS!
Having recently dashed to the Doncaster early kick from Europe and made it, Dave has to leave the Walsall Home game due to a family emergency! Thankfully all is well, and thanks to all of those of you who enquired! Steve fills us in on the 1-4 reverse, we also update on the fans forum and Preview Tuesday nights forthcoming trip to Tranmere with #SWA fan Rachel from the Wirral! UP THE MARINERS!!
Part 1 Steve talks us through his early career, and how he ended up at Grimsby Town, and a tough first season under Bobby Roberts. A fascinating watch for Grimsby Town fans but also for any football fan interested in the life of a footballer from their point of view.
3 away wins on the spin , 4 wins from 5 overall with things looking up for the Mariners, Dave and Steve talk Salford (a), and the latest goings on at GTFC, injuries, the FA Cup draw, our brilliant away following, their songs and much more! UTM!
Dave dashes back from Vienna to get back in time for the home game against Doncaster, WILL HE MAKE IT!? or should he have stayed and watched Rapid Vienna this weekend, or Ajax on route rather than the disaster that was Donny at home. We pick the bones out of the 0-3 defeat and frame it against the backdrop of recent form. Join us as we meander through the ins and outs of this last week or so, which saw 3 wins on the bounce and a defeat - delivering 9 out of a possible 12 points, and Steve notices an Icelandic boost to the club shop's coffers to boot! All aboard the Trawler! UTM
We welcome Kieran Maguire from the Price of Football Podcast to the pod, to discuss football finance and in particular the ownership structure at the club and recent changes to the financial arrangements.
With Steve taking a well-earned holiday (mid-season!!??) we welcome Brighton's Albion Roar and Radio Reverb Broadcaster Alan Wares to the podcast as we look back at the fans perspective of following a lowly league club. We also look at our history-making run to the FA Cup Quarter Final which was ended by Brighton, but from a fans perspective. Alan knows all about Grimsby, after all he married a Meggie! First up though we review our valuable 3 points at home to Bromley - Cheer up Andy Woodman!! UTM!
Undaunted by technical glitches, that are merely referred to and not blighting this episode, we look back on the 1-2 defeat to Barrow at Home, the dark arts, and talk about the smaller clubs that do well, and how good (or not) we are at estimating attendance - thanks for listening - UP THE MARINERS!!
This weekend saw a disappointing defeat away to the Spirites of Chesterfield. But are we seeing green shoots of a way playing? We discuss where we were on 8th September 2001, reminisce about the good times, share some unusual stats that came up over the weekend that feature The Mariners and look ahead to the upcoming Barrow and Bromley games at Blundell Park. So what do you want to hear about first, Jevons, Woody or both?
We gloss over the 1-5 Carabao Cup exit to old Yorkie foes Sheffield Wednesday, and unashamedly focus on the very enjoyable, positive win over Bradford City. We discuss David Artell, the transfer window and look ahead to the Chesterfield (a) game.
We review the week's goings on at BP and discuss the 3-2 victory over Cheltenham Town, and as always put the world to rights!
Steve travels to Noots to experience Thursday night SkySports+ action live, and reports back from Nottingham immediately after the match. We react to the 1-4 result
Welcome to our brand new GRIMSBY TOWN podcast, we look at our opener away at Fleetwood and the season ahead.
