Last year at the HBCU Classic, I had the pleasure of meeting two people who were happily cheering on their sons. I had a great conversation with them while also meeting their two sons, Paxton and Peyton, who played on opposing teams during the classic tournament. That woman is THE Natola Hawthorne. She is not just significant from a historical standpoint, but she gives excellent information on the role of the umpire in a way that you may have never considered along with how it all came to be. This episode was historical, moving, and an important point for all of us to see the significance of women in this space AND how we can all benefit from learning, promoting, and being in the moment of the evolution and acceptance of Women in Sports. Alignment brings happiness and peace to anyone who experiences it. Now, add that to both softball and baseball.
